3.9.08 -- C-187 tour cancelled
As fans of C-187 know by now, the Netherlands tour was cancelled, which of course means that Tymon won't be touring with them. It's an unfortunate
turn, but we wish them luck in the future.
1.12.08 -- Taos finished
Taos is now finished, including Santiago's solo. You can download it
here (right-click and select "Save As") or listen at
our MySpace page. Postings to other online music sites and formulation of
ringtones will be forthcoming. Promo CD's will be sent out for duplication this week.
12.9.07 -- Album Progress
Keyboards for Taos are finished. You can hear a clip of it here.
We're just waiting on a solo from Santiago and then the full track will be posted here. In terms of other progress Manfred is working
on drums for the next track, Mbaise, and I have finished the basic tracks for two more songs on the album. We also now have a page
on Facebook, which includes some pictures also hosted on this site as well as the four tracks from our demo, so be sure to check that out.
The new versions of the demo featuring the completed version of Taos are going to be sent off for duplication later this month so that
Tymon has them in February. Be sure to ask him for one if you see C-187 on tour.
11.4.07 -- Tymon on tour
Soon after that last update, my computer crashed, hence the lack of news these past couple months. Luckily it was fixable, so we
didn't lose any of our material. Tymon Kruidenier (Exivious), who did a solo for us
on "Forsaken," is touring in February as a live guitarist for the band C-187 and has
graciously agreed to hand out copies of our demos at their shows. The disc will be the 2005 demo plus a new track from our upcoming
album. For those not in the Netherlands the track will also be available for free download on the web site. The music for the
"Cities" album is finished, and just needs to be recorded now. Also, Manfred uploaded a video of himself doing the drums for the
At War with Self song "Martyr"; you can check it out here.
8.22.07 -- Updates
Various pages on the site have been updated to reflect new information. We now have a group on Facebook, so if you're part of that
network, be sure to join the group. We're also starting a mailing list, so if you want to be included be sure to send an email to
koliosproject@koliosproject.com.
8.14.07 -- Cities....LP?
Given the current direction of songwriting, we've decided to make the Cities EP into a full-length release. Three songs are written,
one of which is finished except for solos, one of which needs keys, and one of which I've just begun recording. The album will feature
three more songs to be written during the rest of this year. Pablo finished recording bass for Taos, so I'll be posting a clip of that
song with finished bass track later this month. There haven't been much updates this year, mostly because I'm not sure if anybody
outside the band regularly checks this site. So if you're a fan, or just someone passing by, and you have comments about the band
or suggestions for the web site, drop me a line; we'd love to hear from you: Email the band
5.15.07 -- Nothing
Nothing new, I just didn't want anyone to think we had died. People are still working on stuff, and we're still hoping to finish the EP by the
end of the year. Clips will be coming soon of the songs that are almost finished.
3.6.07 -- New Links Added
Added some links to SG Promotion and a few of their bands on the links page, so go check those out. EP progress is minimal: Pablo
working on bass for Taos, one of my students is trying out solos for Willemstad, and I'm writing the third song on the EP, Mbaise.
The fourth song is currently in the planning stages. I've also been working on keys for Manifest Destiny; I'll post a new clip of that
probably some time next month. My Digital Recording class is going to be experimenting with some mixing for me, mainly as an exercise
for them, but who knows, maybe someone will turn out something good enough to use.
1.7.07 -- And a Happy New Year!
Another year has come and gone, and it was not a bad one for The Kolios Project. We would have liked to have been signed to a label,
but we did get our demo finished, and we found Pablo as a bassist. By this time next year we will have hopefully finished the EP.
I found today that we are on the web site RateThisTune.com, so be sure to go
listen to Black Sail here if you haven't already, and give us
a good rating! We're currently #2 in the metal category, but that appears to be out of 5, so as more metal bands get on the site our
rating is sure to drop if our fans don't support us. I couldn't get the player to work, but we have a couple comments on the song,
so it seems to work for most people.
12.25.06 -- Merry Christmas!
In today's atmosphere of religion free "Happy Holidays" greetings, I'd just like to wish everyone a merry Christmas. Obviously our best
wishes go out to all our fans, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Baha'i, Satanist, atheist, agnostic, pagan, whatever, but as for myself, I'm wishing
everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year. In the spirit of the season there's
a clip up of the newest song off our EP. It's called
Taos and the basic tracks are pretty much finished.
12.17.06 -- Bass Track from Pablo
Pablo finished bass for another song off the album, "Manifest Density," and you can listen to a clip
here.
Manfred and I have been making progress on a new song for the Cities EP called "Taos." I'll probably have a clip up next week,
so be sure to stop by later. Manfred recently picked up an udu (an African percussion instrument) that he used on Taos, and we are in the
midst of formulating plans for the third song on the EP. I also recently picked up a Kurzweil 2600X, so be on the lookout for some
better sounding keyboard tracks.
10.1.06 -- New Review, EP progress
We got a new demo review from heavy-metal.it; you can check out my translation
here, with a link to the original review (in Italian). Another song is written for the EP, and guitars are
being recorded. Only 2 out of the 4 songs are written, so don't expect anything by the end of the year, but hopefully in the spring
we'll have at least one track available for preview.
8.22.06 -- Kolios on the Radio
The Kolios Project is now getting radio airplay on Radio Tuzla in Bosnia & Herzegovina. Dragutin Matosevic of
Barikada has been kind enough to play our music on his radio show
Jeans Generacija. The show is Tuesdays from 20:30 to 21:50 (GMT +01:00) and Wednesdays from 03:00 to 04:20 (GMT +01:00).
You can access the live webcast here. I've been doing some mixing
and remixing of new and old material, and I uploaded a clip of Willemstad for your
listening pleasure, rerecorded, remixed, and now with keyboards. Album clips will emerge later in the year.
7.25.06 -- Aghora Interview in Vortex.cl
There's a new Aghora interview up on Vortex.cl that mentions
us, as well as detailing what's going on with Aghora and their plans for the 2nd album and possible tour. Everyone go read about Aghora,
and thanks to Santiago for helping us get our name out there.
7.2.06 -- Barikada Review
Dragutin Matosevic from Barikada was kind enough to send me a translation of our review in his magazine, which is of course in Serbian,
not Czech (I need to work on my recognition of Slavic languages if I ever hope to become a linguist). The translation is up
here, and contains a link to the original article for those of you who know Serbian. There are also
a couple new reviews up on our
Progarchives page, thanks to
Bob McBeath.
6.29.06 -- Shapeless.it Review
We just got a third review in Italian (credo che aggiungio al mio vocabulario italiano) from
Shapeless.it, an Italian webzine.
A full translation is available on the Press page. I also added some photos to our
Purevolume site, so be sure to check those out. Next month I'll post some clips of
the songs we're working on for the album.
6.24.06 -- More Reviews
We've been getting a seeming second wave of reviews recently, but unfortunately none in English. Two are in Italian, with my (poor) English
translations available on the Press page, from Silent Scream
and EUTK.net. We also got one review in Czech from Barikada, which I have been unable to get translated,
so if we have any Czech fans out there that want to send me a translation, we would appreciate it. Album progress: some vocals have
been recorded for the album intro, Manfred finished the third part of a long song we've been working on, and I'll be recording guitars
soon. Ideas have been bounced around for the EP, and Pablo is working on writing a song for it, as well as composing bass for other
songs.
6.4.06 -- New Review in Metal Legacy
There's a new demo review from Metal Legacy up on the Press page.
6.1.06 -- No, We Haven't Died
I haven't posted an update in a long time, because, well, there's not much to post about. Pablo is finishing up bass for Willemstad,
which will be one song on an EP that will be released before the album. I'd say the EP will be finished by the end of the year, but I
think we all know that won't happen, especially since the songs aren't even written yet. Still, stay tuned for that; the title will
be "Cities", and the concept revolves around the various cities mentioned in each song. Manfred is still rerecording old tracks with
his new samples, and soon he will begin working on new material. Enrico from Cheope
has expressed interest in singing for us, and we'll see if that pans out or not.
4.29.06 -- New Drum Sounds
Manfred has recently rerecorded a couple old songs with his new drum samples from Meshuggah's Drumkit from Hell.
Here's a sample from The Silence of Infinite Spaces.
4.2.06 -- Looking for a Vocalist
The music for our debut album is written and has started being worked on (don't get too excited yet, the newest song on our
just-released demo was written well over three years ago). I want to have a vocalist on the album, so if you like our music and can
sing, send us an email at koliosproject@koliosproject.com. There aren't really any
requirements; just be sure you can hit the right notes. The direction I'm leaning now is a male vocalist with a pretty high range
and who can sing clean, aggressive vocals, a la James Labrie from Dream Theater or Daniel Gildenlow from Pain of Salvation, but
nothing is set in stone, so all you girls out there are welcome to submit stuff (after all, we all love Aghora).
3.31.06 -- New Interview
Alex Remington recently interviewed me for his somewhat-music-related blog, so check it out at
http://tighttoynight.blogspot.com.
3.12.06 -- Electronic Version of Demo Available
We're now offering an electronic version of our demo for download. It includes all 4 tracks on the demo, as well as the demo artwork.
The price is only $3 for anywhere in the world. Contact
koliosproject@koliosproject.com for more information. Our
Purevolume site is also up now, and on it you can preview the entire demo, as well as view
artwork.
3.10.06 -- Kolios Project Ring Tones Available
Black Sail is now available as a ringtone from our iSound site. It's
only $0.99, which is about $5 cheaper than most Cingular ring tones. Unfortunately iSound does not currently support Verizon ring
tones, but most other cellular services are supported.
3.5.06 -- Petition for XM Progressive Metal Station
A group of people has started an online petition to create a progressive metal station on Sirius Satellite Radio. One of the bands
they listed as being a group they would like to hear on the station is The Kolios Project, which is how I came across the petition.
So whether you're a fan of our music or just progressive metal in general, be sure to go
sign the petition.
2.28.06 -- New Web Site Launched
The Kolios Project now has a brand new web site to complement our demo. Copies of the 2005 demo are available for $6 domestic,
$8 international. Email us at koliosproject@koliosproject.com to order a copy.
We would also like to welcome our new bassist Pablo Carrascosa. You can read all about him in the About section, or listen to his
work on Black Sail on the Music page.
